What is a horary reading?
Horary astrology is a traditional form of divination in which a chart is cast for the exact moment a specific question is asked. The chart is calculated based on the time of the question and the astrologer’s location. Unlike a natal chart reading, which explores the full structure of a person’s birth chart, horary focuses on a single issue or concern. By examining relevant houses, planetary relationships, and aspects, horary allows for concrete and specific insight into the matter at hand.
Do I need to know my birth time, place, etc.?
Yes, for a natal (birth) chart reading you will need to know the time, date, and place of your birth. There are methods of working with clients who may not know this information. Use the “Booking” section in the menu to reach out if you would like more information about this. You do not need to know this information for a horary reading.
What kind of astrology do you practice?
Every astrologer I know and love draws from multiple traditions, authors, teachers, and technical systems. The sources I draw from fit most cleanly under the umbrella of “traditional” astrology, though that term can be misleading.
“Traditional” astrology is not a single, uniform system. There are important differences between Classical/Hellenistic, Medieval, and Early Modern (Renaissance) approaches, even though they are often grouped together under the same label. It is also important to note that many contemporary astrologers who identify as “traditional” still dialogue with contemporary astrological insights and concerns that may be labeled more “psychological” or “modern.”
My own practice is rooted primarily in Classical, Medieval, and Early Modern sources. I work with a strong emphasis on planetary condition, dignity, and timing. At the same time, I do not treat tradition as a museum or shrine. Astrology is a living craft.
Over more than fifteen years of practice, I have kept what proves reliable. Ultimately, what matters most to me is whether a technique yields clear, accurate, and meaningful results for the person sitting across from me.
Can I record my session?
I prefer that clients take notes rather than record readings.
Can astrology tell me about my relationship/career/health/etc.?
Astrology has historically been applied to nearly every area of life. Across its long development, it has been used to address matters ranging from political and national concerns to deeply personal questions about relationships, vocation/career, health, and daily concerns.
That said, astrology does not replace medical, legal, financial, or other professional advice. When appropriate, I always encourage clients to seek the guidance of qualified specialists in those fields. I do not encourage spiritual bypassing.
You mention “traditional” astrology. How is traditional astrology different from modern astrology?
As I say above, I think most astrologers who work with traditional methods are also in conversation with modern astrological insights and techniques. That being said, there are some differences. For clients who have only ever engaged with more modern techniques, some things you may want to know about how I work:
- I work with the seven traditional planets and luminaries (Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn), along with traditional points such as the lunar nodes, fixed stars, Arabic lots, and more. I do not use the outer planets in the vast majority of my work.
- I place less emphasis on Sun sign identity and more on the structure of the entire chart. There is no such thing, in my view, as “being a Leo” or “acting like a Capricorn.” A person is reflected in the whole of the chart.
- The chart is a picture not only of us, but of the world we inhabit. In many modern readings, the chart is seen as a mirror of the soul and the entire natal chart is linked to personal identity. In more traditional techniques, the chart places us in a wider framework of community, interpersonal relationship, and external influences both positive and negative.
